Toronto's Finest to Battle Fire Fighters for Athletic Honour (September 28, 2010)

TORONTO – September 28, 2010 – Like a valiant band of soldiers poised to meet on the field of honour to due battle in the name of fallen comrades, members of the Toronto Police Amateur Athletic Association (TPAAA) will take on rivals from Toronto Fire Services in a exhibition of athletic prowess during the 128th Annual Police Games in support of the Toronto Police Widows and Orphans Fund; Sunday, October 3rd, 2010; 2pm; at The Rogers Centre, Toronto. In a show of goodwill and sportsmanship, police and fire services will go head-to-head in a number of athletic activities including the Police and Fire Hero’s Challenge obstacle course featuring sprinting, wall scaling and body dragging, and the crowd pleasing, tug-of war between competitors from the Toronto Police Service, Royal Canadian Regiment and Peel Regional Police, etc.

Fans of the century’s old Toronto tradition will also enjoy a static display outside the Rogers Centre featuring Toronto Police, Fire Services and Canadian Military vehicles; as well as performances by the Cabbagetown Youth Centre, The Disc Dogs dog show, and singing sensation, Valerie Sherman of 54 Division’s Community Police Liaison Committee.

Proceeds raised by the TPAAA Police Games will benefit the Toronto Police Widows and Orphans Fund. Founded in 1952, the Widows and Orphans Fund provides financial support to the families of fallen Toronto Police Officers in their time of need.
