Metro Winnipeg - Energy106

Winnipeggers can tune their radios to a new station this weekend. Starting Friday at noon, Energy 106 launches its first week with commercial-free Top 40 music.

The station started testing its signal and several formats in early July, and acted on feedback from its listeners, said Paul Evanov, VP of programming.

With a target of 18- to 34-year-olds, Evanov Radio Group said it expects 106 to “explode onto the scene.” However, it faces stiff competition from current Top 40 radio champ HOT 103.

“I think there will be similarities between the two of us,” said Barry Stewart, Evanov Radio Group Programmer. “HOT’s a great radio station, it always has been. We felt there was room for two.”
