Carassauga is an incorporated, non-profit volunteer community organization in its 26th year of Festival operation. Founded in 1986 with 10 Pavilions, Carassauga was created in response to a challenge put out by the Mayor of Mississauga, Hazel McCallion to all ethno cultural groups at a meeting of her calling in the old City Hall in the fall of 1985. It quickly evolved into a 3-day, 22-hour event with over 4,600 dedicated volunteers giving more than 386,000 of hours of their time. Mayor Hazel McCallion remains the Honorary Chair of Carassauga.
